News
The news is always
changing in the whirlwind life of a
songwriter/singer/musician that is me. The film short of
“Leroy in Valle Hermoso” is on ice as of now. It still is a
fantastic script and the individuals I had in mind for
playing the characters and bringing them to the screen are
still in place…they are waiting for the ‘good’ word from me
and funding…in fact the entire United States of America is
waiting both literally and metaphorically on ‘funding.’
The CD project,
“The Gospel According To Regency” is almost complete. It
will be finished recording and mastering probably in
December of this year, 2008. Be sure to subscribe to the
Joel Melton
Newsletter so you'll be one of the first to
know when it is released. The title, for those who are
unaware, is a metaphor. It means to me and the co-writers
of most of the songs on the disc, the unabridged, un-watered
down, straight-with-no-chaser truth…i.e. ‘The Gospel
According To Regency’ truth.
The songs have all
been either written or inspired by a literal place…Regency
Texas. It is the location of the last wooden suspension
bridge in Texas that is still a working, functioning, and
viable passage,100 feet over a lower branch of the Colorado
river. Regency is located 14 miles NW of San Saba Texas on
FM 500 and has two of the most interesting, inspiring,
loving, giving, and salt-of-the-earth persons on this
planet…Alton and Sue Watson.
Alton and Sue
welcomed me into their home and lives a little over 3 years
ago…and my heart, soul, and spirit have healed and been on a
path of maturation ever since. They both channel the
‘spirit’ of the land there…they are connected…the ‘spirit’
protects them and they edify it by their music and
creativity.
Last May we decided to have a small
Texas songwriter festival there…it was fun and portended of
many good and full life events to come. This April on
Saturday the 18th of 2009, Alton, Sue, and I are
hosting the second annual, “Theres
Something In The Water” Texas songwriter festival.
Michael Fracasso, Beaver Nelson, John Fullbright, Nathan
Hamilton, Greg Glowka, Temple Ray, Bill Lewis, Alton & Sue
Watson, Myself and even a Californian, who is a Texas boy at
heart, Michael Faraday will be performing and enjoying the
wonderful surrounding that is Regency Texas during the
festival.
